Do you want to add color and pizzazz to your old pool deck? You can resurface your pool deck without having to tear it up. Pool decks can either be repaired or updated by resurfacing them. Pool deck resurfacing professionals use overlays to reinforce surfaces such as pool decks, patios, and other outdoor surfaces. Overlays are a material amalgam of resins, cement, sand, and polymers.
Here are some of the most popular ways to resurface your pool deck; for help choosing the right option for your pool, contract Celtic Pavers.
Spray texture overlay: It’s easy to create various textures and patterns for your concrete floor using this thin concrete overlay mix. For example, you can resurface driveways and pool decks by spraying the material with a hopper gun to create a unique tile look or brick-like concrete.
Stamped concrete overlay: A stamped overlay offers most of the aesthetic advantages of stamped concrete but is applied over existing concrete rather than over a new surface. With stamped concrete overlays, you can replicate the look and feel of natural stones, slate, and wood without replacing your existing concrete.
Rubber coating systems: You can apply liquid rubber coatings to your pool deck surface the same way you would on a playground. Their softness and safety make them ideal for young children. There are, however, fewer design options available with them compared to other concrete coatings.
Epoxy pebble finish: Resurfacers of this type contain decorative pebbles in an epoxy mixture. They are easy to install and come in many color combinations. Wear and tear could cause the pebbles to fall out.
Water-based acrylic paints: You can paint outdoor pools with this type of paint as soon as three days after application and five days for indoor pools. This is the cheapest pool deck paint.
Acryl deck paints with a premium finish: Paints of this type provide a glossy finish to your pool deck. It may take up to three days for the paint to dry on an outdoor pool and a week for indoor pools.
Epoxy pool paints: Your pool deck will look more sharp and stylish after using this type of paint. Epoxy paint for pool decks lasts the longest and is considered the most durable. In general, epoxy pool paint typically lasts between seven and ten years.
When resurfacing a concrete pool deck, it is essential to choose friendly colors. The pool deck must be in harmony with the rest of the house. If the paint color matches the exterior house color, the pool deck will appear more connected.
You can find out what colors were used on your home if it was painted by a professional. If you follow this method, you can easily pick a color that will look good with the colors of your house. Colors will be available in the palette, and any of them, or something similar, will be a good choice.
Neutrals, lighters, and earth tones are great options. When you have dark blue house paint, for instance, do not make the pool deck darker. To avoid the deck becoming too hot for barefoot walking, you want to choose a light pool deck paint color that won’t absorb heat from the sun when exposed to it.
You may choose neutral if there is no color to complement your space or if you don’t like the lighter shades of your existing hue. To make your pool deck look stunning, use white, beige, gray, or another neutral color choice.
It will be cheaper to resurface your pool deck than to replace it entirely. For example, it costs between $2,250 and $3,750 to resurface a pool deck with an area of 750 square feet. In addition, stamped concrete can range between $6,000 and $15,000, whereas a decorative overlay would cost approximately $5,250 to $9,000.
Most sound concrete surfaces can be coated with concrete overlays by spraying or troweling. The new concrete also lets you create patterns with stamps and stencils, which are also possible with some systems.
1. Use a shot blaster to clean and sand old or even damaged concrete pool decks.
2. Repair any cracks in the concrete
3. Pressure-wash the entire deck surface.
4. Use heavy-duty tape and plastic sheeting to mask off all places that should not receive the new surface.
5. Add any integral colors to the overlay product and mix
6. Apply the material and decor by spraying or troweling
7. Once cured, apply a sealer to make your pool deck last many years
You can makeover your pool deck in one day using coatings formulated to dry quickly.
